I spoke to the reporter who wrote the article and she said she was getting responses as far as Australia. So Rose is with a great family and was adopted yesterday. Here is the followup article.

Rose needs a new home soon

Dog taken to Animal Control after owner dies.

Rose is facing a death sentence.

Less than a week after her owner died, Rose, a 10-year-old rottweiler mix, has ended up at the pound — with less than two days to live.

Columbus animal control workers took the dog June 24 after its owner passed away from natural causes.

“The dog was very scared at the time,” Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower said.

Rose’s owner, a 63-year-old woman, lived alone and took care of stray animals at the Clay Drive Mobile Home Park, Thrower said.

Rose was found in her owner’s unkempt home, which Thrower said was infested with fleas.

Rose was scheduled to be euthanized first thing this morning.

However, Drale Short, city division manager of special enforcement, said Monday they will hold Rose in the Columbus Animal Care and Control Center for a

couple more days in case anyone wants to adopt her.

PAWS Humane, a no-kill animal adoption center located next door, is unable to take the medium-sized dog because of lack of space.

Rose is sweet and gentle. She has a skin condition on her back from a flea infestation, but workers said it’s treatable.

“She’s very quiet,” Short said. “She doesn’t do a lot of barking.”

Short said that’s probably because she’s mourning her owner’s death. “Dogs are very attached to their owners and they know when something’s wrong,” she said.

If you want to adopt Rose, call animal control at 706-653-4512 and ask for Drale Short. It’s $45 to $55 to adopt a dog, depending on its age.

Last year, the city impounded 8,138 animals — 846 of which were adopted or placed in homes. About 6,330 dogs and cats were euthanized.

Lovely Beauty was Left Behind by Neighbors... Atlanta

This beautiful dog was abandoned by her family! Please pass along, this lonely girl needs a loving home! See below for details.

>>>>>>>>>>The contact is sherry@oracle20-20.com

Beauty Has Been Abandoned

She is about 8 years old and when our neighbors lost their home, they left her behind. We have been feeding her, but she needs a real family. You can see the lonliness in her eyes. She barks a lot at night because she was used to sleeping inside the house. She comes with her own cozy igloo and is O.K. with being an outdoor dog. By the way, she had a lifelong companion that they found a home for before they left making her loniless even more sad.

The Inner Space

Help Beauty

If you or anyone you know can adopt or even foster Beauty until she finds a home, please call me Sherry Henderson at 404-252-4540. Beauty is a good dog and deserves to spend her "retirement years" with a good family. Dogs of her type should live to about 14 - 16 years old. She is frisky and seems to be in good health. Her only problem is lonliness. She appears to weigh about 35 pounds.

Talking dogs

Really funny video! The Dalmation REALLY sounds like a human saying HELLO! Listen carefully to the last dog - you won't believe it.
